      Birthday: Sep 6, 1977

      Birthplace: London, England, UK

Growing up in London, Bertie Carvel studied acting and theater from a young age. Upon graduation from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2003, he went head-first into the stage, appearing in a variety of shows in England, ranging from "Macbeth" to "Faustus." He began to receive more acclaim in 2008 for his work in "Parade," where he was nominated for a Laurence Olivier acting award. At the same time as his stage work during the early 2000s, he also regularly guested on television shows, including appearances on "Doctor Who" (BBC 1963- ), "Sherlock" (BBC 2010-17), and "John Adams" (HBO 2008). In 2010, Carvel started portraying the role that would earn him far more notoriety: headmistress Miss Trunchbull in "Matilda The Musical," which went from the West End to Broadway over the course of his three years in the role. During his time on "Matilda" he also branched out to other medium, appearing in the Tom Hooper-directed film adaptation of "Les Miserables" (2012) and doing voicework for a few video games, including Star Wars: The Old Republic. He continued to work in television as well, with lead roles in the series "Doctor Foster" (BBC 2015- ) and "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell" (BBC 2015), as well as an appearance in "The Crown" (Netflix 2016- ). He began playing the role of Rupert Murdoch in the play "Ink" that started off in England before making the leap to Broadway in April 2019.
