Dmitri Shostakovich
One of the foremost composers of the 20th century, Shostakovich began his career playing piano accompaniment for silent films. He wrote the first of many memorable film scores in 1929, for Kozintsev and Trauberg's "New Babylon," and later scored the pair's famous "Maxim" trilogy. Shostakovich worked mainly at the Lenfilm studio from 1935-47 and at Mosfilm thereafter.
