Geraldine O'Rawe
The Irish actress Geraldine O'Rawe got her start at the Moving Theater Company in England before moving on to film. Her big-screen debut came in 1995 with what is still probably her most defining and recognizable role: Eve Malone in "Circle of Friends." The film, based on the Maeve Binchy's novel, chronicles childhood friendship and a girl's complicated transition into adulthood. O'Rawe parlayed her popularity from "Circle of Friends" into the title role in the 1996 religious drama "Mariette in Ecstasy." O'Rawe plays a young girl aspiring to become a nun who begins to show the wounds of Christ on her hands, feet, and ribs. Although the film was critically well received, "Mariette in Ecstasy" was unable to get U.S. distribution, and so was never released in America. That same year, O'Rawe played Alice Quigley in the political drama "Some Mother's Son." The film also features Helen Mirren, who plays the mother of two Irish political prisoners fighting for better treatment in the penitentiary. O'Rawe continued to act in featured supporting roles towards the end of the 1990s. In 2001, she played Eileen in the drama "Disco Pigs," which focused on a turbulent relationship and featured Elaine Cassidy and Cillian Murphy.
