Joel Fabiani
A stage, TV, and film actor, Joel Fabiani appeared in supporting roles in some memorable films and TV series throughout the 1970s and in daytime soaps in his later career. After serving briefly in the Army, Fabiani studied English in college and moved on to the Actors Workshop in San Francisco, where he studied drama for two years. He then headed to Broadway, where he made his debut in a 1962 production of "The Affair." Throughout the decade he alternated between commercial work and screen and stage acting until he won the steady leading role of Stewart Sullivan on the British Interpol drama "Department S." His two-year stint on the series raised his profile enough for him to win parts on dozens of 1970s prime time shows, like popular cop series "The Streets of San Francisco" and "Starsky and Hutch." A small part alongside Diane Keaton in the dark 1977 drama "Looking for Mr. Goodbar" led to higher-profile work, and soon Fabiani fell into the world of evening soaps, first as Alex Ward on "Dallas" and later as King Galen of Moldavia on "Dynasty." Though he did land the part of Charles Kirkland in Brian De Palma's Hitchcockian "Snake Eyes," the late 1990s saw him nestle nicely into the daytime soap world, first as Mr. Smith on "As the World Turns" and then as family lawyer Barry Shire on "All My Children."
