Lucy Prebble was a British playwright and TV writer who made waves across the pond in late 2014 after signing a deal to write and produce a new HBO comedy starring Sarah Silverman. Raised in the English county of Surrey, Prebble grew up in a very normal household. Her father worked for a large Internet company, and she assumed she'd follow in his footsteps by taking a well-paid, stable job. After graduating from the University of Sheffield, however, Prebble, who by then had taken a slight interest in writing, decided to take a low-paying temp job at the National Theatre in England. While working for the Theatre, Prebble's primary job was to read play submissions, thus allowing her to quickly immerse herself in the form. Before long, she felt confident enough to write her own play called "The Sugar Syndrome" (2003). Critics hailed "The Sugar Syndrome" upon its premiere, thus making a second Prebble play eagerly anticipated. However, it would take her six more years to write a follow-up. During that time, Prebble created a widely-successful British TV series called "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" (ITV2, 2007-2011). The show was such a huge success in Britain that Showtime eventually picked up the series and aired all four seasons on American television. When Prebble's follow-up play, "Enron," finally premiered on London's West End in 2009, the wait proved to be worth it. "Enron" was a critical and commercial smash, thus signaling the rise of a promising young British playwright. It wasn't long before Hollywood took notice, either. In late 2014, Prebble signed on to write and produce a new comedy for HBO starring Sarah Silverman, which further raised her profile in the U.S.
