Distinguished stage actor who entered film in the early 1910s and, beginning with "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" (1919), gained international recognition as one of the central performers of German expressionist cinema. Krauss later appeared in several Nazi propaganda films, the most notorious of which was "Jew Suss" (1940).
