avalon151 To be clear . . I am a HUGE fan of the original, with Steve Mc Queen and Ali MacGraw. I saw it in the theater on it's debut. The first time watching the remake . . I mistakenly thought it was pretty good. Upon review, this morning, I have whole heartedly changed my mind. As much as I like all the actors involved, I realized this version is almost phoned in and has rushed, robotic scenes. A cheap carbon copy of the original, sadly. I don't blame the actors . . but rather the director and producers. Too bad as the casting was pretty good . . but like many remakes I have to ask . . . WHY? . . as if the original wasn't amazing enough. If you're going to remake something . . it had better be at least as good . . or even BETTER than the original. This version sadly, does not stand up against the original . . but just ok as midfare entertainment, on it's own . . No disrespect to the great actors involved. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/13/23 Full Review StephenPaul C The greatest 01 hour: and 55 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!! Starring Alec Baldwin as Carter McCoy, and Kim Basinger as Carol McCoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/23 Full Review Steve D The script is paper thin and laughable. The acting isn't much better. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member It was a big challenge to remake a Steve McQueen-Sam Peckinpah classic. Alec Baldwin does a decent job making it his own. Basinger was as sexy as she ever was in her career, and like McGraw was the weakest link. The supporting cast of Michael Madden and James Woods are very good. The Direction is pretty good but it is very much a scene for scene remake of Peckinpah, but not Peckinpah. I think it is a better watch if you have seen the original because it is good just not as good. Baldwin is good but he is not McQueen. The original had the controversial McGraw leaving her husband, Bob Evans, for McQueen. The "real sex" allegations between Basinger and Baldwin in making this made it seem like a publicity stunt. Worth seeing. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Everything in the kitchen sink for a heist plot, just the UFO is absent... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member This Roger Donaldson's rendition of Peckinpah's & Hill's cult movie let me unsatisfied at all. No comparison with the original, nor the direction (average enough) neither the acting: good casting but... forget Baldwin's and Basinger's performances. Too hairish Baldwin, too curly blondish Basinger! Mr. McQueen didn't need all those hairs to be a "real Man", and Ms. McGraw was so charming with her magnetic expression... That said and coming back to this Mr. Donaldson's remake, the other character actors are well casted and convincing: Madsen, a real "macho", and Wood (the "bad bad bad" guy) above all . Cinematography is in the average. If you don't have anything better to do... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
