Rosa Parra Latinx Lens A simple story worth watching for its depiction of prejudice and discrimination Mexican Americans experienced in Los Angeles. Not a perfect film, but a movie worth your time for the simple fact that in the 1950s these stories were being told. Rated: 3/5 Jul 3, 2021 Full Review Manny Farber The Nation Well worth seeing for such episodes as dreary bus trips to small California fight towns, the educational depiction of a trainer's chores, the tired routine that goes on after a losing fight. Aldo G The film features an early Rita Moreno performance and is an effort by the filmmakers to show the challenges on a Mexican-American trying to make it in the boxing business. Lots of location cinematography, authentic looking production design and solid direction. Worthwhile viewing for those interested in seeing early American filmmaking dedicated to the Latino experience in America's 1950s. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/24 Full Review Audience Member Yesss. . . I'm going to be the first person to write a review on this film. I caught it recently on Turner Classic Movies. I was blown away. This is one of those hidden gems. TCM is probably the only place you'll be able to see it too I don't know if you can buy it or rent it. This was the star actor's only major role that I know of it's a boxing film with heart. it takes you threw the trials of a latino boxer. One of the only movies thats deals with racism in the 1950s, a touchy subject at the time. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
