The Executioner effectively mixes camp and violent action. The production value is somewhat lacking, but the action and special effects have heart. Despite these strengths, the story isn't really compelling enough to carry the movie for 87 minutes, and therefore the action sequences start to feel overlong by the end. (Look for a young Hiroyuki Sanada in the flashback of Sonny Chiba as a child.)

Second favourite Chiba film next to The Street Fighter.

Crazy Sonny Chiba flick. Unintentional humor galore. And a few actually intended laughs. This is a perfect 'greasy chinese food with friends' movie. Sparingly there's some actually good fighting, too. But mostly it's very fake stupid fighting, which is fun too. Oh and there's a pair of weird saggy titties in one scene.

Great stuff, this one really reminded me of the A-Team, though it obviously pre-dates that show by a decade or so. Chiba and a group of thugs caught in the middle of vicious drug lords, they spend the film in vicious battles and taking the piss out of one another, it's a fun little ride and punctuated with random nudity, which is never a bad thing.
Give it a rental.

What would've made this substandard martial arts flick worthwhile is a fight between Sonny Chiba and a youthful Yasuaki Kurata, looking very much like Bruce Lee in this film.

A huge amount of hilarious, violent fun. One of Chiba's best.
