Meyer Levin (Patterson Murphy) Esquire Magazine Barbara Stanwyck gives a clipped, chilly, and Vassarish performance as the aristocratie native. Full of bloody action, zinging bullets, swamp escapes... Steve D A lesser Barbara Stanwyck that fails to do enough Barbara Stanwycking. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/13/23 Full Review Tom M Great 'spy' film for 1936. Boles and Stanwyck are very good but it's always lovable Beery that's the hero. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/21 Full Review Audience Member Turgid, set bound drama with some wild miscasting in central roles. Beery is believable as a renegade wanderer looking for the prime advantage but he's the only actor that really seems to fit. The most ludicrous of all is Barbara Stanwyck, a great actress yes but a Cuban senorita? never! The couldn't have borrowed Lupe Velez or Dolores del Rio? All great stars have turkeys in their filmographies this is one for both Missy and Wally Beery. Just so much studio fodder to fill a double bill.
