Amon Warmann Empire Magazine A strong final outing for the MCU’s flagship animated series, with bold storytelling leading to fun, satisfying results. This exploration of Marvel’s weirder and wilder side will be missed. Rated: 4/5 Dec 24, 2024 Full Review Eric Marchen Untitled Movie Podcast Who cares? Jan 28, 2025 Full Review Joseph Garcia Dynamic Duel Podcast Though the show squanders its own potential, the hit-or-miss series ends with a bang, not a whimper due to its action spectacle and meaningful themes. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 7, 2025 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Marvel Animation's What If...? has been fun to watch and will be missed. Rated: 4/5 Jan 2, 2025 Full Review Alex Maidy JoBlo's Movie Network The series succeeds in being fun, and that is the biggest reason behind making a series like this, even if it does not quite deliver on what the source material was trying to accomplish. Rated: 7/10 Jan 2, 2025 Full Review Matt Fernandez Geeks of Color At the end of its third season, What If…? avoids the mistake that befalls so many other great shows and avoids overextending its premise and overstaying its welcome. Audience Member A terrible end to a mediocre series. I am not one to hate on Marvel and widely disagree with the critics of Phases 4&5, but this was such a wasted concept with overarching stories that were not cared for. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Izzy 1 Enjoyed some of the earlier episodes, but the ending…could tell they wanted to get this show over and done with. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/25 Full Review Johann D. M ENJOYABLE AND IMAGINATIVE! Marvel Studios anthology series returns for its culminating adventure through the Multiverse, and the Watcher continues to explore heroes from more recent MCU movies and Marvel's latest acquisitions for a fascinating finale that defies every reality and The Watcher himself. While this season doesn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessors, it still delivers thrilling moments. Some episodes feel a bit disconnected and less impactful, but the season makes up for it with an incredible cast—many live-action actors returning to voice their characters for one final ride. The climactic battle against the Eminence and the other Watchers is a true highlight, delivering a spectacular showdown that cements the show’s place in Marvel history. Though it would have been great to see even more heroes return for the final confrontation, the series remains an ambitious and creative dive into the infinite and unpredictable possibilities of the multiverse. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/25 Full Review Steven S Couple good episodes but they completely missed the mark on the whole idea of “what if” so many missed opportunities. Episodes definitely didn’t have to connect and the seasons especially didn’t have to connect to eachother and good lord please we’ve had enough of captain carter. Can’t believe we got a whole show centered around a character no one asked for instead of the endless possibilities Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/05/25 Full Review Matthew B Well now it is just straight trash. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/25 Full Review Jacob B Look, I get that the popular statement in showbiz is "always leave them wanting more" but declaring that this show is over after only three short seasons seems a bit much. There are still so many potential ideas. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a similar situation like the third seasons of Jessica Jones and Runaways back in 2019, where they were advertised as final seasons but in actuality, had already been cancelled to make room for the Disney Plus shows and were just informed in advance so that they'd have a chance of wrapping up their narratives. At least a potential comeback hasn't been ruled out. I actually liked the third season of "What If..?" more than the second season. Mostly because it actually focuses on the post-Infinity Saga entries and we even got to have the post-Endgame characters interact with each other here unlike how it seems to be taking forever for the movies to actually do this. I also thought the stories were more entertaining than some of the second season's with the one focusing on Howard the Duck being especially amusing for how insane it could get. And while it's always nice to see actors from the movies reprise their roles, the soundalike VAs do a good job that I didn't even realise that it wasn't Jeff Goldblum voicing the Grandmaster until after the fact, to give an example. I thought the second episode was the most fun and energetic. It does lose steam near the end due to the show feeling the need to have another story arc in an anthology series with the return of another excuse to keep Hayley Atwell in the franchise because everyone's really sorry her old show got cancelled and the ending feeling like it was rehashing how the Loki series concluded. I wish Marvel didn't just unceremoniously declare this series was over but maybe that's for the best for the time being, now that, with the success of X-Men '97, Marvel cartoons not set in the MCU are a thing again.
