The characters in the movie feel authentic and real. The fight scenes are gritty especially the first gang war.
There is betrayal, major dilemmas, greed and violence.

This is a brilliant Korean gangster film. It's main edge to other gangster movies is it's realism.
Great fight scenes and a brilliant lead character who you adhere to. I watched from the UK with subtitles and still really enjoyed it.

An extremely realistic gritty Korean gangster film. While the plot might not be the most original, it is indeed very authentic. The subtle twists and turns "Dirty Carnival" takes are surprisingly fresh for a country that is famous for continually mastering the mafia genre on a regular basis. I mean a few of the best gangster films I've seen in the past couple months were "New World," "Nameless Gangster" and "Infernal Affairs." Now those are some heavy films to compete with in my mind, and "Carnival" goes toe to toe with every one of them. Nearly a four and half stars, but only for the fact that I've bee watered down these past couple months with an overload of mafia films. On repeat viewings that just might change. Just one more thing. Most people's complaints with Korean gangster films, especially this one, is why they don't use guns to solve nearly half the problems they are facing. Which leads to many of the great fight scenes throughout these films. From what I've read, its because criminals have a tough time getting guns in South Korea. Just wanted to answer that question because it always bothers me when defending these films.
