The artwork is quite powerful, and it makes the drama a bit more mature than in a simpler animated cartoon.

Well...this review is certainly...unusual. A review of a motion comic based off of a story arc from back in the days when the X-Men were the most popular superheroes in town thanks to the groundbreaking success of their '90s cartoon and, more prominently, big-screen movies and Joss Whedon was a god among nerd culture rather than the controversial figure that he is now (makes one wonder if people are now starting to think that Firefly never getting a second season was a blessing in disguise all along because it meant he wouldn't be bullying those poor female writers any longer). Technically, I'm reviewing the second arc of a comic book series but still. Astonishing X-Men: Dangerous boasts great artwork and good plot twists regarding the Danger Room. playing out like a borderline horror story at times. It's always nice to see heroic characters outsmarting the villains and bragging about how "Did [the villain] really think I was that stupid?" as shown when Professor X makes a proper in-the-flesh return. The drama with Colossus and Kitty Pryde was pretty compelling. And hey, it's always nice to see the X-Men get equal focus when it took until the prequels for the movies to stop being "Wolverine ft. the X-Men". It's not the best piece of media with Whedon's name on it ever made (I find it lacking in the same wit that The Avengers or Firefly had...maybe even Toy Story, though I'm not sure how much of his side of the script appeared in the finished film) but overall, Whedon's second arc for the mutants is an entertaining read. Good enough read to keep yourselves busy for that long-rumoured day where the X-Men finally show up in the MCU proper.

I´ve always loved Joss Whedon as a writer. His characters - especially Shadowcat in the whole Astonishing X-Men series- are witty and funny. The Artwork really changed my mind about Motion Comics. 5 Stars!
