Down-and-out inventor Michel (Olivier Gourmet) is caring for his dying father when he gets some shocking news: He was adopted. What's more, he wasn't born in Belgium, as he thought, but in a barn in Quebec. A work trip to Canada offers an occasion for Michel to search for his biological parents. Although nothing goes according to plan, Michel does start up a curious friendship with Louis (Paul Ahmarani), a wacky electric-car enthusiast with whom he shares some surprising connections.

Geoff Pevere Toronto Star While Falardeau's prismatic storytelling technique is frequently impressive, it ultimately gets in the way of a movie that otherwise would seem to have a powerful human story struggling to get out. Rated: 2/4 Mar 30, 2007 Full Review Eric Henderson Slant Magazine The surfeit of plot twists and implausible coincidences strain narrative credibility even as the remarkably brawny presentation provides a warm rush. Rated: 2/4 Mar 8, 2007 Full Review Rick Groen Globe and Mail Is that just a trite sentiment, a love-is-all-you-need platitude, and just one more aspect of Congorama that's too neat and a bit forced? Perhaps, but sometimes it takes bravery to embrace the clich. Rated: 3/4 Sep 23, 2006 Full Review Sky Hirschkron Stylus Magazine The film's catalogue of absurdity is so colorful that it needn't be mined for impact, and [Phillippe] Falardeau takes the matter-of-fact route, merely gawking at the wreckage. Rated: 61/100 Jun 25, 2007 Full Review Bruce Kirkland Jam! Movies Even with its weaknesses, such as those many coincidences that keep the plot going, the film offers a unique and playful adventure seldom found in Hollywood cinema. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 1, 2007 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...ultimately undone by its meandering structure and distinctly unfocused vibe. Audience Member Contrived and aimless, with some nice character moments. In the final analysis, it doesn't feel like the movie had much to say at all. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member I am surprised to see the hate-on by the critics. I think Falardeau is one of the best Quebecois directors in terms of developing relationships and treating them to a nice light humour. Congoroma is no different and there are some wonderfully memorable moments. Twisted Evil Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member A very strange movie. Very French so I may not have gotten all the humour. Well worth the viewing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member What a wonderful and thoughtful film. Great performances and a remarkable script. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member this is kind of one those overtly obvious "life is a coincidence, look how fantastical our situation is, but everything will work out in the end because life is really about hope and love and everything" new, ultra realist films, BUT it has jean pierre cassel in it, and jesus, he's a fucking legend.
