Jamie Russell BBC.com Rated: 4/5 Feb 3, 2004 Full Review David N. Butterworth La Movie Boeuf A repetitive and not altogether successful entry in the mind 'n' bum numbing "Cremaster" series. Rated: 2/4 Apr 30, 2020 Full Review Ian Buckwalter DCist While the rest of the series is typified by lush, ornate visuals and often gorgeous cinematography, this is the only one that feels slightly amateurish, underfunded, and overly tedious. Rated: 4.5/10 Oct 11, 2010 Full Review Nick Davis Nick's Flick Picks Barney's outlandish mise-en-scène, forever emphasizing the organic, the amorphous, the massive, the adhesive, and the fluorescent in quite literal ways, also retains those very qualities in my memory. Rated: A May 19, 2010 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall Colourful and bewildering, creepy and strange. Rated: 3/5 Feb 2, 2004 Full Review Ian Mantgani UK Critic Fairly straightforward, at least compared to the rest of the cycle... Rated: 2/4 Feb 2, 2004 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Excellent avant-garde film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Oh, yes! Now that's just beautiful. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member There are parts of Cremaster 1 which are simple enough to follow; for example, "Goodyear" is controlling the dancers on the football field with her bizarre grape ritual, however after reading the synopsis and discovering the dancers represented fertility and birth, I can't admit to actually being able to identify this in the film. But then, this is Cremaster! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Busby Berkley a la David Lynch with a bit of Stanley Kubrick. Kinda cool. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member It's interesting how this takes its name from the cremaster muscle because trying to watch the whole thing was a lot like getting kicked in the nuts. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Visually intriguing and abstract, but disappointingly obtuse, repetitive, and derivative for a real work of art. It is, however, mercifully short. It is not, however, short enough. I'd call it challenging, but that compliment is reserved for something whose meaning isn't mysteriously guarded and ambiguous.
