Dallas H Why do American G.I.s always get into trouble while they leave base on a day pass? And a portion of those troubled times involve cursed legends in foreign territory. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/25/24 Full Review Ted B 3.0 stars; Wow. Richard Long, Marshall Thompson, David Janssen, Jack Kelly, and William Reynolds... Sounds like a 1960s all-star TV cast. Instead, in this case, it's the cast of a 1950s horror flick. They, along with horror flick veteran Faith Domergue, carry a plot that is as old as horror flicks themselves. The plot gimmick is that people can change into animals and back into people again. In the case of this flick, the animal involved is a deadly King Cobra. This was very similar in content and style to the 1940s "Cat People". The only difference, of course, is that we're talking about snakes rather than cats. To me, snakes are a lot creepier than cats anyhow. So if you are a connoisseur of 1950s scary movies, this film should satisfy. Even though they are carrying the movie, don't expect the good actors to raise this film to a higher quality level. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/05/24 Full Review CodyZamboni Z Movie is okay, no thrills, no suspense , no charismatic characters, Slight appeal in watching relationship between naive, sad jilted ex GI and naive snake woman, Both are lonely souls, finding each other, Except cobra cult sent her on a hit mission to wipe out the GIs, Snake lady finds herself conflicted between completing the mission and her love for GI boy, Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/06/24 Full Review georgan g Liked seeing future major stars playing bit parts. The plot was funny but still somehow a little scary. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review dave s Cult of the Cobra is as bland a horror film as one could imagine. Six American GIs pay big bucks to witness a snake worshipping ceremony, warned in advance that they will be killed if caught. When one inexplicably decides to take a picture of the event, with a flashbulb no less, their fate is understandably sealed. The remainder of the film follows the soldiers as they are stalked by the snake, mostly shown in shadow form or from the seemingly glaucoma-afflicted point of view of the cobra. It's all a bit of a bore, with no suspense to speak of and little in the way of horror. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The great Svengoolie continues to treat us to some very interesting movies. "Cult of the Cobra" is by no means a classic, but it is a very fun and entertaining movie. The cast does well in their respective roles and makes the movie more watchable. I liked seeing the late David Janssen in one of his early starring roles before the television role that defined his career. Look fast for the late Edward Platt in a pre "Get Smart" cameo as the Lamian high priest who curses the main characters at the cult ceremony. The late Faith Domergue does a decent job in her role as the woman with a dark secret and an even darker mission. The dialogue is a little cornball at times and there are some other strange flaws. Why Corporal Nick Hommel (Played by the late James Dobson), steals the cobra from the Lamain temple makes no sense to me. Also, if the six men at the center of the story are all in the Air Force, why are they wearing Army uniforms? Still, despite these problems with the movie, I think "Cult of the Cobra" is at least an entertaining movie that is worth watching at least once.
