Luke W Upbeat and entertaining. You just want to root for Malcolm and his friends. He loves the 90s too. I enjoyed this movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review KB B It was pretty entertaining but I doubt I'd ever watch it again. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/07/24 Full Review Bucky R Uneven in many ways, but entertaining and unique anyway. Great tunes by Pharrell Williams. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/10/23 Full Review Georgan G Don't usually like coming of age films as they tend to be unrealistic. Which is my main criticism of this movie. However, it was clever, lots of twists & turns plus likeable main characters. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/05/23 Full Review yash b "Dope" feels like it has way too much going on, but it is still pretty charming and has a unique style. To me, this isn't among the very best coming-of-age stories but there is some fun to be had with it. My favorite part of the movie is the ending which elevates it to an okay movie with the finished product. I thought it started strong and finished very strong but in the middle, my interest in the plot would come and go so it was hard to truly love this one. Overall, it is a movie I wanted to like much more than I did, but there is still enough to appreciate and enjoy because of how strong and satisfying the ending is. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member 69%. June 2022. Not a super exciting story. Decent film. Nijla Mu'min Bitch Media In the end, the film is smart, fun, and wild. Feb 3, 2021 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online The film falls so hard off its course that I basically checked out after about 40 minutes. Rated: C- Sep 1, 2017 Full Review Aramide Tinubu Shadow and Act What I love most about Dope is director Famuyiwa's confidence in his audience. Apr 12, 2017 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson "Dope" rises above the weak comedic formula of going to the well too often for the repetitive gross-out gags and childish sexual humor that normally saddle coming-of-age comedies. Rated: 4/5 Apr 7, 2024 Full Review Jeffrey Peterson Indie Film Minute As the characters of Dope meander their hometown of Inglewood, they have to grow up, and yes, they do have role models, but no one really wants to hear the teens’ truth, the justification for their choices. Sep 1, 2023 Full Review Jordan Brooks Vague Visages The world certainly doesn’t need another coming-of-age movie, but Dope is evidence that stories can add an undeniable new dimension to old stories.
