Mattie Lucas From the Front Row A buoyant satire about an American businessman who comes to Russia with his trigger happy cowboy bodyguard in tow. Audience Member Great silent comedy, that mocks the "ugly american" very effectively. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member The mid-twenties were a great period of experimentation for Soviet art. 20 years after I missed the last Melbourne screening I finally got to see this mix of slapstick satire in the style of Harold Lloyd and avant-garde acting methods. Extraordinary, but I'm left wondering how Kuleshov survived the purges. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member There's no subtlety in the characters, which makes this of interest for historical purposes only. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Delightful silent satire which takes some sharp jabs at American culture. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Bájos történet. micsoda szerencse, hogy a bolsevikok ilyen jó emberek voltak... Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Fun Soviet propaganda comedy that tells the story of the enthusiastic but gullible Mr. West, a proud American (see how she waves the US flag as he arrives to the land of the Bolsheviks) and President of the YMCA that goes on a trip to the Soviet Union under the idea that Russians are all savages. It is however his faithful body-guard that begins to spread the chaos in the streets of Moscow. It's also Mr. West's ignorance that leads him to the trap the crooks set up for him. The actor that plays Mr. West is great. The montage is frenetic. Humorous and occasionally witty on its social commentary. Leninist propaganda aside, it was quite enjoyable.
