Jeff M There's a potentially interesting and engrossing film here, but it sinks under the weight of its intentions and the lack of a good editor. There's simply way too much going on here - suicide, sexual abuse, animal cruelty, teenage rebellion... and with all that going on, the characters in this film act like the worst thing of all is that the main character is 30 and still playing minor league baseball. It's ultimately a confused movie, with an ending that feels out of place, and other scenes that feel tacked on for no reason whatsoever. Schreiber's protagonist is not particularly well written or portrayed - his motives are unclear and some of his actions almost schizophrenic. But Paolo gives a strong performance and adds some nuance to a stock character we've seen a thousand times. The movie held my interest, but a lack of focus keeps it from being a success. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review gazster83 The acting in it certainly isn't the best and the ending whilst was shocking as there wasn't much reference during the film wasn't entirely unforeseen. So slightly predictable in a way. The main character did come across as really creepy to me and actually made me want to switch off however i gave the film its time. I didn't like the scene towards the end with the dog as that just was not needed in the film. Sadly you hear about this kind of story in normal life and i think in some ways the young guy in the film actually played the part of Ross well. Other characters could certainly have had a better script given to them as the acting from some of them was pretty poor i thought. Overall... could have been better made. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This could have been a good movie but the boy killing a dog was beyond repulsive and so completely unnecessary. Ruined this entire movie for me. That entire disturbing part could have been left out and framed a different way without showing animal abuse. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member As a child, his dad commits suicide and his mom goes crazy as a result. His baseball coaches subsequent interest in him turns into sexual abuse. As an adult he is an aging AA minor league baseball player with a bum knee who dreams of making it to the majors. His teammates ridicule and mock him. The local law authorities beat him up -- and his abusive childhood coach shoots him with the VERY gun his father used to kill himself. And everything else about the film is equally silly. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
