Audience Member Only the slight wear of the videotape quality (transferred to DVD) and about a minute's worth of "cleanup" editing for PBS (excusing some profanities) knock this down half a star. The script is now justly regarded as a classic of its era, the staging is fluid and nimble, and the heavenly cast is flat-out sensational. If you want some examples of how good plays taped for TV can be, track down this first, then HBO/Showtime's "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" with Jessica Lange, "Bus Stop" with Margot Kidder, "Pygmalion" with Kidder and Peter O'Toole, and "The Hasty Heart" with Gregory Harrison and Cheryl Ladd. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member This is clearly a very, very good play. However, not so good a movie adaptation. The editing is awkward, making it seem stilted and choppy, rather than the flowing nature of a theatrical production. The acting is all very good, however. If I ever got an opportunity to see the play, I would certainly take it. But I wouldn't go out of my way to see the movie again. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
