She sets strange new house rules, smokes in her bathroom, and secretly rips up a drawing they gave her--things their loving mother would never do. As her behavior grows increasingly bizarre and erratic, a horrifying thought takes root in the boys' minds: The sinking suspicion that the woman beneath the gauze, who's making their food and sleeping in the next room, isn't their mother at all.

Thriller sicuramente interessante ed inquietante in cui il concetto dello scambio di personalità è senza dubbio terrificante. Purtroppo però ci sono tantissime forzature, nemmeno tanto piccole, che impediscono di credere a pieno della sceneggiatura, dove troppi sono i momenti in cui la salvezza sarebbe a portata ma non viene raggiunta ed anzi, i "due" ragazzi scelgono costantemente la strada sbagliata. Infine anche il plot twist finale in realtà è già visto troppe volte e per nulla originale, tragico senz'altro ma senza la capacità di scatenare le emozioni che cerca.

This is almost impossible to review without giving away spoilers, so I'm going to keep this one short and sweet. This is a creepy movie that was uncomfortable to watch. If Watts' goal was to create a 21st century MOMMIE DEAREST, well, she succeeds. The young Crovetti brothers are both quite good here and elevate the material to a more compelling level than it probably deserves. I have to be honest, though - I'm beginning to tire of these movies that seems specifically made for the sole purpose of having a surprise climax and/or ending. This is a remake of a 2014 Austrian film, and I'm assuming it had the same basic structure. I'm not sure everything that happened during the movie makes sense in context, but I wasn't interested enough to re-watch it to find out. I suppose at the end, the best word to express my feelings is BLAH. I wasn't miserable throughout the experience, but I don't think I'll remember this in a few days, although seeing Naomi Watts in that mask could result in a nightmare or two.

Wasn't overly scary. It reminded me a lot of The Which. Acting was spot on. Had a couple jump scares, but mostly a psychological dread / mystery thing going on.
