Sarah Boslaugh Playback:stl ... a key film in raising the consciousness of women, and of men as well, to the way the lives of girls and women are limited by societal conventions and direct conditioning. Rated: 7/10 Feb 6, 2016 Full Review Read all reviews

Jackson B Tepid when interesting, and when boring it is nauseatingly so. It's truly hilarious irony that this movie touches on the subject of female pettiness towards other women. This filmmaker has it in spades, interrogating and handling her subjects like zoo animals. She seems the total opposite of an artist like Agnes Varda. In other words, inhuman. This would be a lot more interest if the filmmaker didn't use such leading questions. A person who goes into a production like this with an idea they wish to get across rather than something to discover is... disappointing, although not uncommon. Not exactly what I would call an artist or journalist. Propagandist maybe? It looks nice except for framing the faces very close. Midwits seem to think holding very close on things make them artsy. But there is value in this film as a time capsule. The things shown in this film, and how they are framed, depicts them as negative. At the time that may have been an easy sell. In today's context I think that, for example, having students counseled at their school on the subject of marriage would be a blessing rather than the curse that this film so desperately wants it to seem.
