Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member As pointless as I expect from a Triad film.

There is a steady hand in the director's seat (Andrew Lau - for my money the HK director of the decade (2000s, certainly not the 90s). Because there's little substance, I could've used more style. But it's played pretty real and that was welcome. Francis Ng acts his ass off in a unique role, but other than that, the cast is pretty much as mediocre as you expect from pop singers. (I like Ekin Cheng just fine....I don't need him to be a great actor, which he's not. He's a movie star, not an actor.)

It's an important film but it's not that special. It pandered to teenagers to get some asses in cinema seats and it worked. Doesn't mean it's a good movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Well frankly, it's quite a stupid movie but I love the message which this franchise brings, you have to pay back with extremity if you went down the extreme road. It's not that I'm discouraging anyone from aspiring to become the next godfather, but just be aware of what entails Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Being a rascal (triad) has never been so noble and has never been so much fun, either, than in Andrew Lau's controversial adaptation of the popular Teddy Boy comic that struck a cord with impressionable viewers and touched a raw nerve with the government and critics alike. Manfred Wong, who wrote and produced "Young and Dangerous," tailors his primary cast of obnoxious low ranking punks (Ekin Cheng, Jordan Chan, Jerry Lamb, and Michael Tse) in such a way that attempts to convince his audience these young thugs (or "teddy boys") would never hurt anyone who didn't already have it coming and are all [mostly] above the deplorable acts often synonymous with organized crime. Apparently the kids bought it: "Young and Dangerous" proved the surprise hit of 1996 and proliferated two sequels that same year, in addition to three more official sequels, two spinoffs, and two prequels all in a span of four years. Parallel to past Andrew Lau projects "Young and Dangerous" is a train wreck of a film but one whose entertainment value is derived from your inability to look away. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting movie that goes from a violent and proud of it, to very comedic then back to a dark dark film.
