Diana S So I thought the novel this movie is based on would be a YA, but it doesn't appear to be, which is surprising. Jamie Marks Is Dead is better than a lot of tripe that's out there because it takes time to develop the characters and to form believable connections between them. The theme is not original but still human. The movie is too long, the piano chords are annoying, and the melodrama is a bit over the top. Nevertheless, if you're bored like I am and looking for something to focus on for an hour and forty minutes, this isn't the worst choice. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/11/23 Full Review misterrain837 A different kind of ghost story. Well worth the watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/01/22 Full Review julien e Haunting and psychological. A fresh take on horror. Atmospheric and emotive. Elegant in its perfectly balanced subtlety. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review jeb j I thought this was going to be a horror movie but now I'm speechless......in a good way. It gripped me from the start as it brought back all my memories from school; being picked on, ostracized, and all the hurt and anger that came with it. I was crying at the end, especially after the scene where he tells Adam, "remember me". This one is going to resonate with me for all my days. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/21/22 Full Review Audience Member disappointing supernatural drama about a student who develops a relationship with a ghost of a misfit classmate Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member The concept of the film is interesting, and the well-shot bleak environment does mirror the feelings of the emotionally charged characters. The story is dour though. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Anton Bitel Sight & Sound Jamie's death [is] a shifting, formative influence on Gracie and Adam's future life. Smith conjures this bizarre love triangle without recourse to any special effects, and maintains a wintry melancholy throughout. Nov 4, 2014 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times "Jamie Marks Is Dead" admirably refuses to hew to conventional horror tropes and is acted with integrity by its young performers, but the film nonetheless has a nagging pulse problem. Aug 29, 2014 Full Review Susan Wloszczyna RogerEbert.com It is likely to test the patience of many viewers. Rated: 2/4 Aug 29, 2014 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Even with its slick cinematography and surprising talented young cast, the payoff and ways in which it embraced allegories for teen angst never really amounted to anything. Rated: 2/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review David Lamble Bay Area Reporter ...a film that deliberately blurs the lines between horror and romance... Jun 10, 2020 Full Review Josh Goller Spectrum Culture Despite some visually and aurally interesting moments, as a story, Jamie Marks Is Dead remains lifeless.
