Audience Member Although, it reminded me slightly of Kitano's Brother and Miike's Dead or Alive 2 (all those deadly mobsters playing around and talking innocently about polar bears) it's quite original and very like the other movies I've seen from Kiyoshi Kurosawa - hermetic, slow-paced and gently pessimistic. By using a traditional genre such as yakuza movies he portrays his own vision of humanity, which is something I'm still trying to completely grasp. So far, I feel like a lot of his movies are often about being alone, about being surrounded by death, whether is provoked by you or some paranormal happening, but somehow being not worthy of it yourself to die like everyone else. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member I liked this movie a lot, I found the character very interesting and was fascinated at the diplomatic nature of the yakuza and their very coded structure that allows for freedoms and yet zero tolerance for violations, it was a philosophical tale and I feel it is a tad too weak at times, like the character relationship, which wasn't engaging but overall, very nice.
