A hark back to the Shaw Brothers' "Heroes Two" (1974), "Men from the Monastery" (1974), and "Executioners from Shaolin" (1977) with one noticeable difference: it's written and directed by Wong Jing -- the Roger Corman of Hong Kong cinema -- and his sticky finger prints are visible in nearly every frame. Anachronisms, brutality, gratuitous under-cranking, precocious youths, randy old women, and toilet humor abound in this frustrating but watchable early '90s gung fu flick starring a stone cold Jet Li as real-life Ching Dynasty rebel Hong Xi Guan.

This is in my opinion the best Jet Li has to offer. Violent, brutal fight scenes are plenty an the action is at it fastest. The addition of the child fighter who plays his son makes this even better. The story is crazy, the action is violent and over the top, and the characters are some of the best ever in a kung fu movie. If you haven't seen it do yourself a favor and watch this movie!!!!

This film has some weird editing but the action and plot are very well made. The soundtrack is dark and great..This was the first time that Xie Miao plays Jet Li's son..while the second time was "My Father is a Hero"..they are the best Father and Son ever..This is one of the best Director Wong Jing's,Jet Li's and Action Director Corey Yuen's movies!!
