Renee Ng Asian Movie Pulse Less is more? No, Johnnie To and Wai Ka-fai say. More, is more. The directing duo's world of mahjong warriors is a playground of absurd happenings, where every sequence is stretched to physical maximum. Nov 2, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member An interesting, funny and never seen before plot that is good for a quick laugh. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member cny+watch it on tv->extra half star Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Offbeat comedy inevitably disorienting the non-adept of Mahjong - but even so, in the end, miracle!, you may have learned the bases of the most esoteric and brainburning game. Even more disorienting is seeing here the usual noir cast of noir master To in unusual comic roles, silly as hell, too, but they are good as always - Wan Lau is pretty hilarious as a not-so-subtle gangsta-gambler. At some level, for what it is, it works, among all the disorienting things. Challenge accepted? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Standard but solid Spring Festival comedy from Wai & To, champs of the genre, equipped with an edifying message in typically derivative form. With a poorly developed romantic plotline and a so-so Miriam Yeung-substitute in Gigi Leung, Fat Choi Spirit probably unintentionally turns out more gambling movie than romcom. But still funny though, thanks to Lau Ching Wan's ironic and wildly exaggerated performance. Probably exciting too if you got some mahjong skills. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member An okay annual happy-new-year film from Johnnie To. Nothing special, really. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member i was in this film..(the final scene) playing an extra...haha.. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
