Publisher Lewis Venable (Robert Cummings) is desperate to acquire love letters between noted 19th century poet Jeffrey Ashton and Juliana Bordereau (Agnes Moorehead). Learning that Juliana is still alive, Lewis arranges an introduction. Assuming the identity of a rich author, Lewis meets the now-blind Juliana, who allows him to rent rooms in her home. Lewis' search for the letters takes a turn when Juliana's great-niece, Tina (Susan Hayward), is revealed as a schizophrenic obsessed with Ashton.

08/19/2013 A moody adaptation which is more dreamlike than surreal despite it being offbeat for a Hollywood studio production. See more 10/27/2011 Atmospheric mood piece isn't for all tastes, Susan Hayward herself hated it and called it the Lost Hour and a Half, and while it's no classic it has a very good central performance by Susan as the tormented Tina. Cummings however is miscast, Charles Boyer would have been much better here. Agnes Moorehead is completely unrecognizable under very impressive makeup as the ancient aunt. See more Read all reviews
