Martin Unsworth Starburst It might not always hit the mark, being fairly pedestrian in its pace, but it has plenty to recommend. Rated: 4/5 Dec 18, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Wayne K Mausoleum is one of a plethora of movies that wasn’t charged as a Video Nasty, but was still under scrutiny for what many perceived to be low-rate, tawdry garbage. It’s an undeniably silly premise that provides the backdrop for a number of gory killers and cheesy, inconsistent special effects. Sometimes the screen needs to freeze so the lead can use her eye-glowing telekinetic ability, and sometimes it doesn’t. There’s a fair few plot holes and narrative gaps, so if you decide to watch it you’re better off not thinking too hard. It does have its share of creepy moments, and Bobbie Bresee really gives it her all. Also the gore effects look fantastic, representing a time before horror films were blighted by digitally rendered blood and horrific CGI monsters. The acting is sketchy and the mythology is spotty, but it’s aim is to give the audience some cheap, shameless thrills, and that’s exactly what it does. It doesn’t aim too high, and even when it misses, you feel like there’s actually effort and passion being put into it. You wouldn’t be missing much if you don’t watch it, and it won’t stick in your memory very long if you do, but if you like a ridiculous, gory skin-flick, Mausoleum is right up your alley. The acting is horrible, the score isn't much better, and the '80's practical effects are subpar even for its time. However, double it up with other grindhouse 'specials' such as 'Piranha' (1978) or 'Humanoids From the Deep' and then you'll have a wickedly good time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This is one of the most deliciously awful movies I have ever seen! It has everything! Horrible acting, cheesy bad musical score, jarringly poor ADR, terrible effects and makeup, and (of course) the most nonsensical plot twist at the end! The movie tells the story a woman who is a member of a family whose women are cursed with demonic possession. Their family name is Nomed (Ha! What a clever, tricksy movie). Once Susan is possessed, she is stricken with green, glowing eyes and a constant unresistable urge to expose her breasts as she tries to kill pretty much everyone else in the film. I cannot express how much fun this truly awful movie is to watch. I constantly cycled from cringing to confusion to pointing at the screen and laughing. Plus it stars Marjoe Gortner (the former 4 year-old Pentecostal revival preacher - yep! That's a fact!). He gave up preaching to use his gift of a total lack of acting talent to bring us magical films like this one. Seriously, call up some friends that love to laugh, open some adult beverages, and fire this one up! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Saw this in the theater opening weekend. By the end of the film the audience was laughing so hard and doubled over as they tripped out the doors. Great film for a Bad Movie Night. Would make a good MST3K film. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member More fun than most period horror films of its' kind, Mausoleum's above-average creature effects are bolstered by Bobbie Bresee's "committed" lead performance, and the outrageous/borderline racist character of Elsie. Also notable for the appearance of murderous demon breasts. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Yowza! It's a pretty bad movie, but I've got to give it points for being soo damn gonzo. It's at least unique. You're not often going to run into flicks that offer up what this does.
