While visiting New York, Wyoming cowboy and widower Chris Heyward (Fred MacMurray) falls for Broadway songwriter Kay Kingsley (Irene Dunne), and after a whirlwind romance, the two marry and return to Chris' ranch and two daughters. After a boisterous welcome from the neighbors, including Chris' former girlfriend, Jean (Ann Doran), Kay settles into the demanding work of farm life.
