Audience Member I saw this movie at the Oshkosh Horror Film Festival a few years ago. It stands out as one of the most viscerally engaging horror movies I've ever seen. The main character is likeable and very relateable.......and so is the freaking serial killer! This dude is off the charts crazy. But I think he truly loves her, so when their paths cross there is chemistry and then very engaging drama. This is not your run of the mill hack and slash movie, it's not a cheap thrill. This is a movie that will stay with you and make you think about life. It's one of the movies that convinced me to love the horror genre because it doesn't fit the mould of a normal horror movie, I love the character development. I saw an early screening of the movie in late 2013 at the Independent Horror Film Festival "Fear Fete". Honestly from reading the summary and watching the trailer I went into the theater screening prepared to be bored and/or confused. One thing I told my friend during the movie when the killings started was "Dude, this killer is F'ing crazy but I hope he doesn't die". The statement is a good initial reaction to watching a movie where you really dig the killer and the personality that is being portrayed on screen. The movie tells the story of Charlotte (Played by Christi Ray) who's a young woman in a tough place in her life. Charlotte is living with her mother with high dreams of becoming a film actress. The dreams seem to become a distant images as we get more pieces of what her current life is like such as her mother bringing down her mood or the sleazy strip club manager were Charlotte waitresses. It's while working at the strip club as a waitress that Charlotte runs across David Long (Played by David long...not kidding look him up in IMDB), who being beaten up by one of the clubs bouncers. Charlotte helps David to his van but he's in no condition to drive himself so she drives him away from the city. Charlotte then discovers that David Long makes movies for a living and a friendship is born. Next we see what type of movies David Long likes to make and by movies I mean him killing people. The murders are unique though as we see how David Long feels what he's doing is art...and that he's F'ing Crazy. I like to picture that David's mind as a room full of beautiful artwork but all the artwork has been covered in some dark muck. This is one of those few horror movies where I didn't feel bad for any of the victims. It's the same feeling you get from watching Carrie kill off all the mean kids in her school, they had it coming a mile away. I don't want to give anything away but the ending is something very different from what you would expect from a horror movie. There has to be said something about the acting and how the movie looks. The acting from the main characters is outstanding for people I had never heard of before. You really begin to care for both characters in different ways as the movie unfolds before your eyes. The way the movie looks is crazy since it was a lower budget independent film because it doesn't look cheap at all. The director "Joe Stauffer" put a lot of love into creating/filming of this movie and it shows so much while watching it. They are currently trying to raise funding for a sequel http://piecesoftalent.com/amissingpiece/ I suggest anyone who's a horror fan to give it a look, it's worth your time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This is one of the best hidden gems of 2014! Pieces of Talent is one of the best horror movies I have seen, it's not super gory, it has an amazing story and beautifully shot. The details are extrodinary. My web show just interviewed Kristi Ray here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-L5CZfBmLU Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member A visually beautiful and simultaneously disturbing film, Pieces of Talent blends artistry with underground horror brutality in a way that is truly original and provocative.
