Gary Arnold Washington Post The set-up in "Romancing the Stone" is poorly contrived to sustain a chase thriller. Jan 29, 2019 Full Review Peter Travers People Magazine Turner is terrific, Douglas is fine and the action is slam-bang. Add lots of laughs and it all works out just right. Apr 4, 2014 Full Review Empire Magazine Douglas and Turner make a great double act in this exuberantly directed adventure movie with a great start turn from the always enjoyable De Vito. Good stuff. Rated: 4/5 May 6, 2008 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews Filmmaker Zemeckis, armed with a screenplay by Diane Thomas, does a terrific job of instantly luring the viewer into the proceedings... Rated: 3/4 Apr 6, 2024 Full Review Alan Jones Starburst Romancing the Stone has a lighter touch than Raiders but it is just as romantic and jam packed full of unexpected twists and turns. Sarah G The movie that asks "what if Indy was a bit more of a jerk?" Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/25 Full Review lee l Might be old but its aged fantastically, a truly fun film with a great story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/28/24 Full Review Blu B A Adventure comedy Classic. It's not a perfect film and if your not into 80's asetics you could have trouble getting into this as it's VERY cheesy at times. However, it feels like it has a degree of self awareness to it and the humor is pretty good actually too. The soundtrack is really good and gloriously dated 80's sound. The acting is solid but probably the weakest part. Turner can be abit hit or miss at times alone but Douglas makes her better. He's really good and the best thing in this and has a ton of charisma. It does a great job blending a fun treasure hunt with humor and romance that's very charming throughout with solid direction. Everything else is really good. On paper this shouldn't work that well. The plot is so farfetched, is a bit clunky at first setting things up especially because Turner just doesn't have the charisma of Douglas, and has tons of 80's cheese but it's always having fun. It's too busy having fun, making you laugh, and charming you with a fun adventure to really stumble. Anyone who is a fan of adventures, comedies, the director, or any actors in this should check this out. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/25/24 Full Review William B A perfect blend of slapstick comedy, action-packed adventure and fantastical romance Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review alan g One of the best Rom-coms ever. Great acting. Over the top plot. Very romantic for a date night. A movie to fall in love with. My girlfriend (now wife) cried and laughed. A romantic novel come to life. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review Glen A From a time when Zemeckis stuck to ageless practical effects, "Romancing the Stone" is still a wonderful movie 40 years later.
