Nimish H Romancing the Stone is an absolute adventure classic. Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner are the perfect pairing, bringing equal parts humor, chemistry, and excitement to the screen. The film strikes the perfect balance between action, romance, and comedy as the characters embark on a wild journey through the jungle. It’s fast-paced, thrilling, and full of fun surprises. The mix of adventure and heart makes it an all-time favorite. If you’re in the mood for a great time, this one never disappoints. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/23/25 Full Review Xandra M I think this may be the only movie I've seen 100 times. It's fair to say I love it. Romance novelist Joan Wilder lives in New York, where she avoids dating and dreams of finding a man as dashing as her fictional creations. After a drink with her agent on a dreary winter night, Joan comes home to find that her apartment has been ransacked. The phone rings (complete with a cat jump scare) and Joan discovers that her sister, Elaine, has been kidnapped in Colombia, where she lives with her husband. Before he was murdered, Joan's brother-in-law sent Joan a treasure map. Elaine asks Joan to bring the map to Cartagena in exchange for her life. Despite her agent begging her not to go to a dangerous place alone, Joan flies to Colombia and is tricked into getting on the wrong bus. Soon, she is in the middle of nowhere and a man pulls a gun on her, demanding her bag. Just when all hope seems lost, a dashing stranger appears and saves her. But... it turns out the dashing stranger is a bit of a jerk. He's selfish, uncaring, sarcastic, and, as played by Michael Douglas, totally irresistible. The chemistry between these two is off the charts, and the action is so compelling that you forgive the movie for taking you away from the romance. The movie is also really funny, with Danny Devito playing a loser who is tracking Joan. I have laughed so much watching this movie over the years, and even forty years after I first saw it in the theater, I still feel invested in the outcome. All the stars for this romance/adventure classic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/17/25 Full Review jacob c Romancing the Stone is undeniably a bit derivative, but the chemistry between its two leads and the film’s overall fun, lighthearted tone largely compensate for it. Add in some enjoyable action and you’ve got a classic ‘80s adventure. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/30/25 Full Review Jerod S Proof that escapism feel-good film can also have depth and character. Douglas is in fine form as he meets quiet author Turner for some real life adventure. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/16/25 Full Review Sarah G The movie that asks "what if Indy was a bit more of a jerk?" Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/25 Full Review lee l Might be old but its aged fantastically, a truly fun film with a great story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/28/24 Full Review Read all reviews
