      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

A clever premise gets plenty of comic blood and violence, but its hampered by some questionable storytelling techniques from director Quentin Dupieux.

Ryan B Has a "school film project that's attempting to convey a specific message" vibe about it without actually conveying anything. Although it is truly a bizarre movie and a good laugh to watch with friends. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review Luke w One of the greatest productions ever made. I routed for Robert from day 1, and I could relate to him on a paternal level... He's like a son to me. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/24 Full Review ocularnervosa This movie plays like a film student's final project. And they are trying to "give a message" about horror movies and the modern audience. Anyhow if you want to watch the stupidest horror movie ever made, this is it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Nathaniel C Honestly this is pretty darn good if you know what you're getting into. It's like someone wanted to present the answer to "whats the difference between comedy and non-sense?" Well this is non-sense, but it isn't much of a comedy. But that's okay. It makes up for it with style. Should I watch it again? Not any decade soon, but i'm glad I watched it a 2nd time. And I do look forward to someday seeing it a 3rd time. Go in not expecting a horror or a comedy, but instead the weird, and you'll probably have a good time. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/31/23 Full Review B B Quality first date movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/16/23 Full Review Jes B We showed this as a midnight movie when I worked at the River Oaks Theatre in Houston, TX and I LOVE this movie. You'll laugh and there is a fair deal of gore. I loved this film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic Your enjoyment of French filmmaker Quentin's Dupieux's movie depends in large part on your capacity to enjoy the absurd. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Rated: 3.5/5 May 5, 2011 Full Review Amy Amatangelo Boston Herald Holy Luis Bunuel. Not nearly as clever as it thinks it is, "Rubber," a movie about movies from French musician/writer/director Quentin Dupieux, would have worked much better as a short. Rated: D Apr 29, 2011 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com [This] audacious and sometimes inspired throwaway is like a "Saturday Night Live" skit sprung from the mind of David Cronenberg or David Lynch. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 29, 2011 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review If the answer to Hollywood’s lacking creativity is Rubber, then I’d gladly watch a few more formulaic genre movies in its place. Rated: 0/4 Jul 31, 2023 Full Review Emma Wolfe SpookyAstronauts The fact that the movie lacks any storyline at all kind of downfalls the whole thing. Rated: 3/10 May 19, 2021 Full Review Ed Travis Hollywood Jesus Sometimes, life has no reason... and then the movie about a malevolent telekinetic tire gets into full swing. Fun times!
