V.A. Musetto New York Post [Director] Guzman's film is filled with revelations that will disturb many, including U.S. involvement in the coup. If only Guzman had been more innovative in his presentation. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 7, 2007 Full Review Ed Gonzalez Slant Magazine Less effective as a portrait of Allende than it is as a commentary on the documentary medium itself-art as a means of resuscitating history. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 5, 2007 Full Review Manohla Dargis New York Times One from the heart, Salvador Allende is a plaintive look back at the rise and violent fall of the world's first democratically elected Marxist president. Audience Member Salvador Allende: History is ours, and the people make it to build a better society. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member An outstanding documentary film demonstrating the limits of the peaceful/democratic path to socialism, demonstrating the need for the dictatorship of the proletariat to smash the bourgeois/capitalist state. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Nice domentary film about the life and miracles of Salvador Allende, the first (and unique) marxist politician democratically elected in the world. It is a Patricio Guzman's film, a Chilean director who went into the exile to France. It is mainly a film for people who does not know or never heard about Allende. The only "defect" of the film is that is completely subjective, since it is a vision from an Allende's friend and Allende's partisan, who does not hide his ideology and symphaties for Allende from the beggining of the movie. The best thing is that I could see the movie in Chile, surrounded of Chileans who lived the Allende's years and the subsequent coup d'Etat in 1973 and I remember some of them crying during the film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Not particulary this one, but i cried many times watching his documentaries, wich is rare. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Bueno, esta es una pelicula que no es necesario que de muchas explicaciones.
