Steve D A poor man's Gaslight with none of its successes. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Blobbo think someone show rehearsals by accident. When real movie start? Plus, cheers to man who score film --- is actually worse than movie! Blobbo big impressed! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Kenneth Tobey Is One of My Favorites Stars. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Psychological suspense-noir, right at the cusp between 40s naivete and 60s daring, about a woman [Beverly Garland] who gets caught in the middle of an old feud between her husband [Skip Homeier] and her boss [Kenneth Tobey], that she only learns about in the last reel. When her husband flips out with jealousy, he turns into a sadist, and in the worst "Gaslight" tradition, humiliates and almost kills her. Bizarre and harrowing scenes in his wrong-side-of-the-tracks hometown include some kind of men's tom-tom ritual and a hinted-at rape that he calmly watches from the shadows. Her best friend [with a really huge hairdo] talks her through the whole thing, and herself provides a cute twist at the finale that perhaps saves the ending from utter banality. Great shots of southern California scenery and architecture, interesting lighting, great cars, lots of Long Beach oil wells. Some parts are really cheesy, clumsy high-school skit quality, other moments are almost breath-taking. Some really creative attempts with mirrors, camera angles, and dissolves. This movie is way too racy to have ever have shown on television, so it's been unseen since it was in theaters. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member This is one of my favourite Beverly Garland films. Once you've seen this woman's abusive relationship with her husband, your own life doesn't seem so bad. It's really extremely dramatic and violent too. I really liked this movie, it's good. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member The only real good thing about this movie was that it was less then 90 Minutes Long. Part of a Grindhouse Double Shock Show from Alpha Video. Beverly garland plays the abused wife who has nothing but fear for her husband, who from the start of the movie slaps her around and beats her. She has to give up her job because of her jealous husband. Her husband has many of his own secrets, lovers, the town he's really from, and his friends. After he has one of his friends rape his wife while he watches, she?s had enough and goes back to work and falls in love with her boss, who is her husbands rival. In the end, rapist is killed, Husband disappears, and Boss and his now to be future wife fly off to Mexico. Filmed in 1962, most of the theme of this movie wouldn't be on the big screen today. I'm being nice by giving this one 2 stars Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
