Panos Kotzathanasis Asian Movie Pulse "Talking Head" is a difficult movie to watch, since the rather fast delivery of lines, the abstract narrative, and the many references to various people and cinematic procedures demand both knowledge and patience from the viewer. Audience Member Esto es como si Hideaki Anno hubiera dirigido un capitulo del Detective Conan. No es mala... pero es raaara. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This film definately is not for everyone. But those of you who are into film and animation or anime may enjoy it. Warning do not look for anime in it's usual sense. It is a surreal film about a film with no script, no direction only a title. It basically dissects the making of a film. It can be a little hard to follow if you do not pay attention. It is not a film for entertainment as we are used to viewing. It is a study in the making of a film, it's working mechanisms, and what drives the making of a film. It is pure genius far beyond, Very interesting and worth viewing Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member It is two months before the years most talked about anime movie is slated to debut in theaters. The problem is the director of the film has disappeared, there is no screenplay and nothing has been filmed at all. So a “migrant technical director” is brought in to finish the project so it meets its deadline. But shortly after he appears, crew members start to turn up dead. There is no denying that director Mamoru Oshii is a difficult director to get use to. The first time I saw Ghost in the Shell, I thought it was a decent film but one too smart for me to appreciate. With time though I have changed my views on that film, and now see it for the great film that it is. With time, maybe I can do the same for Talking Head. But as of right now, the film is too tricky and too confusing for me to have gotten into it and enjoy while watching. Talking Head has an interesting style to it, and I will give the film points on the unusual way that it is filmed. Plus, I thought the film history aspect as well as the film school-like ways it tries to teach you about films, and what it is about them that we love was interesting. And one of the films only strong points. But sadly, I just couldn’t enjoy this film at all. It was tedious almost the whole way through, with a few moments here and there that I enjoyed. It is a good film for fans of Oshii to see, since it is one of his few live action films. But as far as his smart films go, I will stick with Ghost in the Shell.
