Audience Member Can we please pretend that this never existed? Tenchi Muyo! The Daughter of Darkness is the worst I have ever seen from the Tenchi Muyo! franchise. Putting aside the horrible choice of adding a demon character to the largely sci-fi world of Tenchi Universe, this film makes numerous faux-pas in direction and writing. While the character of Mayuka is cute and likable, the film seems to delight in disturbing the viewer as much as possible. Once you begin to accept Mayuka as Tenchi's daughter, the film goes through as much incestuous fiddle-faddle as possible to make your stomach turn, making one truly wonder what the writers were thinking when writing the story. The film is also exceptionally poorly-paced, with many "important" scenes being blazed by in record time, and the more inconsequential moments taking up too much time. The final nail in this stinker's coffin, however, is the villain. Again, putting aside the fact that we have a demon in a sci-fi realm, the character Yuzuha is painfully one-dimensional. Watching DoD, there seems to be absolutely no reason for her to want to kill Yosho and Tenchi. It seems to ultimately boil down to an obsession with power, and not a very intriguing one at that. Combine this with the inconsistent animation quality and one-note musical accompaniment, and Tenchi Muyo! The Daughter of Darkness shows itself as the dark stain on the franchise's otherwise clean-white sheets. Skip it if you can, and a vert your eyes if you can't. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member With little to no plot Midsummer's Eve is the worst of the Tenchi films, feeling more like a half-baked special than a serious venture. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved this movie. Tenchi is so trusting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member for 2009: absolutely better than the 1st movie but shorter for some reason the filmmakers decided it was better to tell a short story this time another old enemy from the past has a bone to pick with the Masaki family so she creates a human girl from Tenchi's DNA(unbeknownst to him) and her own Mayuka's presence threatens Ryoko and chaos ensues among the household of the rest of the girls the movie is a lot of fun but certainly unsusual since there are a lot of awkward scenes most of the situations involve family incest and sexual provacations, the villain in here has a perverted mind in terms of her revenge the movie though has beautiful animation, cool action scenes and such human emotion for under an hr makes the importance of love and family that much more significant Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Use to love the hell out of this movie. Now its just a pleasant memory. Im a Tenchi fan. And this one was my fav. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This is great, if you are a fan of Tenchi you will love this.
