Chris M There is a LOT wrong with this movie. I'm no doctor, but I'm sure there is more than one syringe full of spinal fluid in a human being. Also, I'm also convinced the spinal fluid isn't required to live. Realistically he might be causing paralyzation in people, not death. Next, that has got to be the worst Gorilla costume in movie history. I've seen better costumes in "3 Stooges" shorts. The makeup effects consist of gluing hair to his face and hands. But what's really good? Bela Lugosi as a doctor driven to insanity by desperation for a cure. Early on before he goes full mad scientist, you can hear the regret and sadness in his performance. He gave his performance more depth than a silly sci-fi horror like this deserved. He made Dr. Brewster sympathetic. Most of the other characters are likable too. It has a so bad it's good quality and Bela Lugosi deserved more attention for his amazing acting skill he had and not punish this movie for the many flaws it has. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/07/23 Full Review Chris J The Ape - Approved (1h 2m) 1940 - Horror 1/5 stars Two films, both from the 50 Horror Films Classic set. Two films I feel like I should've enjoyed more than I did. I won't spend a lot of time on either as I highly doubt most will try to see these. I feel like most of the films in this set will be of similar quality but I'll still push through them all. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/25/21 Full Review Audience Member GREATEST MOVIE EVER PRODUCED IN ALL OF HISTORY!!!! HE IS AN APE, and get this ALSO A MAN Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Don't get me wrong this is a bad movie. A bad bad bad movie, but there's something about it that's strangely appealing. (Not a recommendation) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Lugosi with LOTS of hair--Going Ape in Hollywood Circa 1943 Bela Lugosi style!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Nothing too interesting. Bela Lugosi looked more like a werewolf than an apeman, and there's a lot of random scenes and boring murders. There's not really anything new to this film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
