Olson K Watched on 3/23/2024. A good movie, but some of the nuances of the plot were hard to follow from the dialogues. A slightly faster pace may have been preferred too. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review Colin M A pub barman in Brooklyn encounters crime. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review brian h A well crafted suspense screenplay based on a short story. Haunting. Excellent acting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Mitch C James Gandolfini's swan song, and as a supporting cast member to Tom Hardy he is excellent as is Hardy. At first, Hardy's character (Bob) seems like an innocent caught up in the seedier side of underworld inner city crime. An observant Catholic on the surface, the viewer soon finds out why he doesn't take partake in communion. Drags a bit in parts. Perhaps could have been shorter, but the acting is top notch and the twist in the end is worth the wait. Plus there's an adorable puppy who steals a scene or two. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/24 Full Review Benjamin H The Drop could have benefitted from more briskness during the first act and a few elements of the ending could have been improved, but it is an excellently acted, superbly shot and tonally harsh crime thriller that doesn't exaggerate or bow down to simple cliches. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/24 Full Review Matt J The narrative kept me engaged and guessing through the movie. So much of the story is expressed without words, this is a very tense and evoking film. I finished it last night, but the characters are still running through my mind. Jason Bailey Flavorwire 'The Drop' reminds us of what Gandolfini always did well: providing support, heft, and color, in the tradition of our finest character actors. Jun 18, 2016 Full Review Antonia Quirke Financial Times The film is just three degrees off being brilliant yet is always creepingly moving, and I loved its lived-in squalor. Jan 5, 2015 Full Review David Edelstein New York Magazine/Vulture As a vehicle for those two actors, The Drop is gangbusters. Jan 5, 2015 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson "The Drop" does have a sly ending in mind and at play, a great scene really, but it doesn't match or make up for the tedious lead-up. Rated: 2/5 Apr 7, 2024 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It's a well-made film that may be small in cinematic stature but big in terms of smart and precise storytelling. Rated: 4/5 Aug 17, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review As much as this critic would like to say that Gandolfini’s final farewell is a show-stealer, his performance finds a perfect equilibrium with his costars.
