Audience Member Well, it is a classic, and remembering that there is no CGI and limited special effects does make this movie more interesting, but the plot is bizarre and the editing could be better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Ti Lung is one of the most badass swordsmen in this movie. Trying to kill his rival, the mysterious Mr. Yu sends all of his famous five fighters to take him and his rival out. Also going after the fabled Peacock Dart, this movie literally has action every five minutes. There's barely any downtime for character development, but the constant attacks, ambushes, and fighting makes for one of the most action packed and well paced Shaw bros. movies. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member year s/b 1976 not 2008 typical chop socky flick from the shaw brothers Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member At face value very banal, this movie plays out like a proverb in motion. It exchanges literalism for outlandish metaphor, which cements it in the eternal language of myth and legend. It gets a little repetitive in its constant over-the-top violence, but actually grows pleasantly dreamlike in the process. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Not much to complain about with Ti Lung fighting in what is essentially a high fantasy movie with some over the top set designs and costumes. The fight choreography is certainly notable, and there is a ton of combat packed into this movie, for those of you who only come to watch that element of the film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Not much story, or sense, or logic here, but pure madness, cheesy dialogues, James Bond like trinkets and serious athletic skills; also, a lot of sense of wonder is conveyed by the eerie, almost abstract and expressionist scenography and savvy usage of dark and light, not to mention the Tonfa Sword, predecessor of the spinning Blade seen in Hark's Dao... and Devil Grandma, obviously.
