Ty Burr Washington Post “Straw” has all the feels it wants and little of the art it needs. Rated: 2/4 Jun 9, 2025 Full Review Lisa Kennedy New York Times Henson — so deeply committed to her character’s emotional cratering — still makes us care. Jun 9, 2025 Full Review Lovia Gyarkye The Hollywood Reporter Straw isn’t the worst Perry film, but it suffers from the same problems that plague all of his projects. The narrative is chock full of heavy-handed metaphors, fussy plotting and strained drama. The best parts of the film can be attributed to Henson. Jun 9, 2025 Full Review Maxance Vincent FlickSided The twist concludes the movie with a bad taste in our mouth, and a realization that Perry will never be able to make art that will stand the test of time if he doesn’t treat serious subject matters like the ones he deals with in Straw with respect. Rated: 1.5/5 Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Anthony Whyte The Movie Blog With Straw, Perry reminds us that storytelling isn’t just entertainment it’s empathy. It’s not perfect, but it’s powerful. And if you’re someone who’s ever been one bad day away from breaking, Straw will feel personal. Jul 19, 2025 Full Review Alex Southey That Shelf What saves Straw from being an all-out downer is an explosiveness poised beneath every heavy sigh and tearful eye. It’s no Falling Down, but it pulls from the same reservoir of deep individual pain and showcases the same societal apathy towards it. Jul 11, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Morgan G. There were a few moments where I was not engaged in the plot. A series of unfortunate events usually gets pretty exhausting but I think we were a all rooting for the lead. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/02/25 Full Review Abubakar O Teraji Henson is the only reason this even got a star out of me Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/30/25 Full Review Nathy k This movie was so moving. I don’t know what it was to be honest but it condensed me and my family to tears. Focused on alot of topical issues evident in American society. Absolutely amazing and I recommend this movie 110% Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/29/25 Full Review Robert M Ever watch a movie that the next day, and the day after that, left you thinking about it? This is that movie. I generally do not watch stories like this, but the acting is compelling and the storyline tragically unique. If you watch this movie and feel nothing, I'm sorry for you, because you are dead. While it is not perfect in any means, and could benefit from better production, every other aspect of it more than compensates for areas of any lack. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/29/25 Full Review Marian V It felt so real you could feel the emotions. In life sometimes there is no good ending. You go day to day and have bad days. Thats the art the emotions the reality. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Christina F That movie hit me so hard on a personal level and I am 22 weeks pregnant with a girl and this film had my dog worried because I was crying so hard this movie is a masterpiece.
