Synopsis
Up until his death, painter Vincent van Gogh regularly wrote to his brother, Theo. This documentary tells van Gogh's story from his perspective, with actor John Hurt reading from the artist's letters. Initially intending to become a minister, van Gogh struggles to pursue his art, battling poverty and despair until his suicide in 1890. The narration is accompanied by van Gogh's paintings, as well as reenactments of his life and footage of his native Holland.
