dave j Sgt. Tom Valens (David Janson) while waiting around shoots a suspect he was chasing after he saw him draw for a weapon. We find out later he is a beloved doctor amongst the community resulting the Sgt to be in hot water. Which raises the question of if the doctor was so innocent why was he was running and what was he attempting to grab from his jacket if it wasn't a gun the Sgt had claimed he had seen he was drawing for. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie really held my attention the whole way through. There were no boring and "out of place" scenes, but instead, every person and scene would play a bigger role in the end. There was one person who's acting was so good that you'd never catch on to what their real role was in the whole plot until it was revealed. Even Ben Mankiewicz from Turner Classic Movies was caught off guard by this actor. I was pleasantly surprised to see Carroll O'Connor as the judge in this movie. I wish he had been in an even bigger role. David Janssen was great. A no nonsense man who knows what he wants and what he doesn't have time for. All in all, I thought the movie was good and I'm glad I saw it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Good crime drama with a most impressive cast list. Janssen is an acquired taste but all the secondary roles are filled with a galaxy of well known character actors and mid level stars. Has a very period feel and at times an almost 70's TV movie quality but it's action packed and well put together so if you're in the mood for something that is fast paced and requires some thought but not too much this should work. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member All CLASSICS are GOOD Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Warning Shot Starring: David Janssen, Keenan Wynn, Lillian Gish, and George Grizzard Director: Buzz Kulik When police detective Tom Valens (Janssen) shoots someone he believed to be armed and dangerous, but no weapon is found and the dead suspect turns out to be a much-loved, famously philathropic doctor, he finds himself on trail fof manslaughter. Already found guilty by public opinion, Valens races against the clock--the start of his trail where he will certainly be found guilty and sent to prison--to figure out what happened to the gun he knows he saw, as well as figure out why such an esteemed person was behaving so suspiciously. "Warning Shot" is a mildly interesting cross between a detective story and a courtroom drama. It's an interesting enough little story, but it suffers from the fact that the character of Tom Valens never really emerges from the generic "tough, honest cop innocently accused" template. Yeah, he lives off nothing but buttermilk, and he has a troubled marriage, but that's about it. Heck, we gain more insight into the character of the DA hell-bent on railroading Valens than we do into the character we're supposed to sympathize with. There are certain parts of the film that haven't aged well--such as some "news-footage" included to illustrate how the public is leaping to the conclusion that Valens is some wacked-out, gun-happy cop who just blows people away willhe-nillhe. The inclusion of a stereotypical hippy had me giggling, although the filmmakers most certainly were not looking for that reaction. Overall, though, the film is worth seeing, but it's not particularly great, despite its line-up of great actors. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
