What to Know

Critics Consensus

XX's array of distinct female filmmaking voices -- and the empowerment their collection represents -- offer enough thrills to make up for the overall uneven quality that plagues most anthology projects.

rhienna renée guedry Bitch Media A delightful and horrific variety pack. Feb 26, 2021 Full Review Elena Lazic Little White Lies Framed by pretty banal animation, the film as a whole reflects a rather limited vision of womanhood, with three shorts focused solely on mothers. That XX proves patchy is a disappointment, particularly as it is a noble project. Mar 21, 2018 Full Review Peter Keough Boston Globe The four narratives ... achieve varying levels of black comedy and terror with an emphasis on women's issues. Rated: 2.5/4 Mar 2, 2017 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The promising concept behind XX draws our interest from start to finish, and the arrangement assures that, if we don't like the current segment, a new one is just a few minutes away. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 5, 2022 Full Review Emma Wolfe SpookyAstronauts Obviously this is a film that everyone was rooting for... but it just didn't thrill me overall. Rated: 3/10 Apr 26, 2021 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review Wwith Carillo's creepy Brothers Quay-inspired animation holding it all together, this is an admirable, mostly enjoyable success that I hope inspires a franchise. Texas D Dumb unrealistic characters. lol I mean wtf I’ve seen better films from high school kids then this POS lol Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/25/24 Full Review penguin s All in all, it was an entertaining watch. I found the stop motion between the shorts just as interesting. The 1st really left me hanging, the second was entertaining but had me scratching my head over the main's motivations. It was comical more than scary. The 3rd was by far most creepy and the final, well acted, left me wanting more. It would make a great movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Kevin A This movie is drastically underrated. A movie that consists of multiple mini stories, each manages to capture the different types of horror. If you do watch it, be sure to give a real chance & watch the whole thing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/17/22 Full Review john b Horrendously terrible even for low budget standards. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review isaiah i This movie is just flat out horrendous. The Characters did beyond stupid and implausible decisions. The first thing a woman does when she finds her dead husband is hide him and then put him in a Panda Costume in front of her kid's birthday, only for them to discover that he's dead and cause a panic…what in the world was that? It has lazy and cheap jump scares, and the dialogue is god awful, along with the writing. The doctor says you got to eat Danny. He says why. Doctor says because people are starving all over the world. The heck? How about because if you don't eat you'll die for gods sakes! Terrible movie, one of the worsts I've seen. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member It had its moments but the whole was rather boresome Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
