Osaka as it lives, rocks, and spins all over Japan- lightless capital of the more weird ones. It is said the dialect can be hard to follow even for the native japanese.
The plot is absolutely lovely, well with a few exceptions, basically it is built around a young boy who does not really have a clue but he rocks his female teacher, and towards the end, he and his friends engage in an expedition all over Japan, well that is from Osaka, through the bay, in order to visit relatives maybe 50 miles away.
There are many references to boys youth such as fireworks and paper dolls but see for yourself!

An interesting coming-of-age story made with all the unique style that you expect from Takashi Miike.

What!? This is even tamer than the first? They don't even show the fights! Not what I was expecting at all judging from Miike's work or the prequel. Good family story I guess, great directing.

Beautiful yet extremly brutal at the same time, the only movie I know of that pushes you away but draws you in at the same time.

With most Takashi Miike films, there are scenes where I have to ask myself, "did that just happen..." the answer being, yes, it did.

I really like Takashi Miike's work and this is no disappointment. He takes us into the underbelly of Osaka and lets us watch up close the challenges that face so many people of various ages in various communties around the world. It shows how human and real Japan is and the feelings that expressed in its rawness that Osaka is famous for. Brilliant! jwl
