This heartfelt comedy follows Sam, a teenager on the autism spectrum, who has decided he is ready for romance. In order to start dating -- and hopefully find love -- Sam will need to be more independent, which also sends his mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh) on her own life-changing path. She and the rest of Sam's family, including a scrappy sister and a father seeking a better understanding of his son, must adjust to change and explore what it means to be "normal." The series is created and written by Robia Rashid and Academy Award-winning producer Seth Gordon. Read More Read Less

Heather Hogan Autostraddle If you're looking for a feel-good way to kick off 2020, Atypical is definitely worth your time. It's everything all of us have always loved about coming-of-age queer love stories on teevee. Jan 3, 2020 Full Review Debi Enker The Age (Australia) Into its third season, Robia Rashid's portrait of the Gardner family continues on its heartfelt, funny and happily surprising way. Jan 2, 2020 Full Review John Doyle Globe and Mail The show has subtly shifted focus to his parents... It's a very, very delicate balance. Nov 6, 2019 Full Review Nicolas Soto But Why Tho? A Geek Community Even if you haven’t watched [Atypical], I highly recommend checking out the last few minutes of the sixth episode...It perfectly captures who Sam is as a person while also showing the superb writing that carries the show forward. Chris L I really enjoyed the first two seasons. The writers made the characters interesting and believable. I am not sure happened in Season 3, but Izzy's child has disappeared and the school's dress code suddenly becomes an important central issue. The victim mentality that had been mostly absent starts to take center stage. Also, how would Elsa, the avid cook of the family, not know what bread starter is? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/20/22 Full Review Audience Member As I tell in my review of S1 and S2, this series is awesome: the acting and the plot. With this third season, they fixed the little setback of S2. They managed to make the plot even more touching and manages to make me have feelings for the characters. What was centered in the first season (Sam dealing with his autism and trying to get a girlfriend) is way more expanded now, and I love the way they did that. With more focus on Casey, Doug and Elsa, and Zahid. Love it. Absolute Must See!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I can't stress enough how much I love this show. I was afraid that the series might veer off course and take a wrong turn, but it never did. The acting is the best of the best. The characters are wonderfully written. This is possibly the best thing on Netflix right now. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Season Three of "Atypical" is the absolute highest peak that Atypical can meet, with all the heart, humor, and drama that it could possibly pack in one season. It's amazing, and also great performances, and that extra seasoning on top that every good show needs, LGBTQ+ vibes. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member If you watched seasons one and two you already know how good this show is, and if you haven't go watch them! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Very enjoyable series. Quirky, interesting characters with a story that makes the viewer want to see more. :) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
