Michael Westen is steamed -- or, more precisely, burned. His career as a spy ends when he gets a "burn notice," the covert equivalent of a pink slip. Stuck in his hometown of Miami, he intends to find out who did this to him and why, although that's not easy to do: With the burn notice attached to his name, he is cut off from his usual contacts and has to fly under the radar of the intelligence network lest he tip off his secret enemy. So it's a good thing he can rely on help from Fiona, his ex-girlfriend and IRA spy, and his friend Sam, also a former spy. Then there's Madeline, Michael's mother, a hypochondriac but probably not a spy.

The USA espionage dramedy starring Jeffrey Donovan offers is good for picking up some spy tips, good for watching while you fold laundry and a good reminder you why you want to live in a beach town. Go to Full Review

Looking for some summertime fun? It is Burn Notice... It combines the lively silliness from scores of shows that have gone before. Go to Full Review

The dialogue is always to the point, yet it gives even the bit players enough room to create something memorable. Go to Full Review

One of Burn Notice's most successful choices involves the use of on location shooting in Miami. The city is used exceedingly well in establishing a distinct environment that goes beyond the usual South Beach shots. Go to Full Review

Westen is decidedly unoriginal, despite and because he is granted stylish action sequences. Go to Full Review

Creator Matt Nix has managed to produce a show that's both familiar and original, uses some fantastic dramatic devices, and always stays the right side of snarky. Go to Full Review

Anton A @RT22107531 04/07/2024 I am late to the show, however, it still holds its ground compared to the modern overtuned CGI shows, yes, even in this genre of crime/drama. See more Grant C @RT09588739 03/03/2024 Main character Mike isn’t a super believable ex spy. But it’s entertaining and his gf Fi is smoking hot! Worth a watch! See more Kevin M @RT60476098 05/04/2022 Grabs you from the first episode See more 02/21/2022 You never know when a series is going to suck you in...this is one of those series. See more Justin T @RT55578696 04/11/2021 Great story. Good fun. Starts out strong. A bit like a cross between McGyver and the spy world. See more 03/04/2021 If I'm being honest I only found this show through IMDb for Bruce Campbell (am a big Evil Dead fan!). The reviews seemed quite positive, and the pilot episode wasn't too bad, especially to see a spy getting fired for no apparent reason, and having to live on his wits/friends/associates as a PI. However, each successive episode follows the same formula, and you just know that despite all the drama and death threats, our intrepid trio will always win out in the end, finishing off with some lame joke coupled with an air of satisfied smugness. This is a combo between the best bits of CSI:Miami and Miami Vice, and if you've seen either you'll be on familiar ground here. The only problem is that nothing much out of the ordinary happens here: its basically painting-by-numbers for 40 odd minutes. Of course first seasons are always awkward because no one knows how to take it, especially studio bosses, producers, directors, writers and cast. But I would hope, given its 7 season run, that it moves away from the safe curve come season 2, and shakes things up a little. See more Read all reviews
