What to Know

Critics Consensus

A back-to-basics caper populated by the likes of a mesmerizing Juno Temple and a thick slice of Hamm, Fargo's fifth season is a superb return to peak form.

A.A. Dowd Primetimer Season 5 restores the dark-comic tone — that existential screwball, a play on Joel and Ethan’s — but still succumbs to some of the same problems, like Hawley’s increasing preference for loudly stated themes and clashing acting styles. Feb 28, 2024 Full Review Esther Zuckerman The Atlantic Much of the pleasure of this Fargo season has come from watching her MacGyver herself out of peril with wicked smarts. But despite Dot’s savviness, the viewer is never quite convinced that she’s out of trouble. Jan 18, 2024 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times There are moments when Season 5 of Fargo seems to be trying almost too hard to be weird and great, but that's a fine ambition to have. There are also moments of absolutely inspired lunacy. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 28, 2023 Full Review Nelson Acosta Koimoi Season 5 feels more like an event than just one more season of the show. In an age when the avalanche of content seems infinite, it feels great that the show takes its time to come up with the best possible story before coming back to our screens. Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Kathryn Reklis The Christian Century Fargo understands this rage more fully, partially because it understands that the battle for patriarchal power is far from over... May 7, 2024 Full Review Diane Carson KDHX (St. Louis) This iteration blissfully delivers the desired off-beat humor and distinctive, inimitable violence. Feb 27, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Unfortunately plagued almost compulsively with non stop repeated story of abused women and powerplay women. That story is the most overused theme in every TV series today-1923,true detective, Fargo and many others... It's boring and way too predictable at this point. So you're looking for something fresh then don't bother Great role of richa moorjani. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/20/25 Full Review grain j Mid season, but with that being said Juno Temple and Sam Spruell really do nail their roles Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/13/25 Full Review Thomas S It was generally a good season but really let down by the rather weak final episode. The tendency for the series to go off on flights of super fantasy are a distraction and really used too much in this season , especially at the end. Having a mostly action crime thriller become a philosophical stage act just derails it. And a rather disappointing plot choice that didn’t seem to serve any purpose other than to create disappointment in the audience ; what is that about? I’m sure the season will make for good course material in university courses , but for an entertainment program , it’s meh at best. Without the final episode and some of the flights of fantasy from earlier it could have been 4/5. But alas it isn’t. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/16/25 Full Review Ray C much worst than first four seasons, is so shallow, is really difficult to watch Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/15/25 Full Review S D Juno is so amazing along with Sam, both a masterclass along with the writing and directing. Sam's hair cut should also be up there with the guy from No Country For Old Men. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/06/25 Full Review Nonya B I was really disappointed with how this series has declined. On closer examination of the characters there is not one white male character that is a decent human being apart from the protagonist husband who is a clueless idiot patsy. The moral the series makers are trying to convey is VERY heavy handed. And is along the lines of " men are evil apart from black men" The expansion of the protagonists character is not very fleshed out, she seems to have skills and strength far beyond her past and her slight frame can explain. Overall a bit of a damp squib of an end to a decent concept. It seems logical to assume Amazon thought the same as they cancelled this show after this.
