What to Know

Critics Consensus

A back-to-basics caper populated by the likes of a mesmerizing Juno Temple and a thick slice of Hamm, Fargo's fifth season is a superb return to peak form.

A.A. Dowd Primetimer Season 5 restores the dark-comic tone — that existential screwball, a play on Joel and Ethan’s — but still succumbs to some of the same problems, like Hawley’s increasing preference for loudly stated themes and clashing acting styles. Feb 28, 2024 Full Review Esther Zuckerman The Atlantic Much of the pleasure of this Fargo season has come from watching her MacGyver herself out of peril with wicked smarts. But despite Dot’s savviness, the viewer is never quite convinced that she’s out of trouble. Jan 18, 2024 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times There are moments when Season 5 of Fargo seems to be trying almost too hard to be weird and great, but that's a fine ambition to have. There are also moments of absolutely inspired lunacy. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 28, 2023 Full Review Nelson Acosta Koimoi Season 5 feels more like an event than just one more season of the show. In an age when the avalanche of content seems infinite, it feels great that the show takes its time to come up with the best possible story before coming back to our screens. Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Kathryn Reklis The Christian Century Fargo understands this rage more fully, partially because it understands that the battle for patriarchal power is far from over... May 7, 2024 Full Review Diane Carson KDHX (St. Louis) This iteration blissfully delivers the desired off-beat humor and distinctive, inimitable violence. Feb 27, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Abdulla A Season 5 is a mess, doesn't even come close to the brilliance of the first 3 seasons.. It's all over the top. I'm not sure if this is Fargo or some horror show. The voice over parts are unnecessary. Stick to the first 3 seasons. Don't even attempt to watch 4. I think it should stop. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/15/25 Full Review Michael L An intriguing season/show at times with just about as much of a feeling of exhaustion and unbelievability. Every character arch both intrigues at the beginning, but eventually gets bent or fades to be a little dissappointing/flat. Not a bad series, and many viewers are going to like most of the predictable but satisfying payouts at the end (all except one - traditional Cohen like weird arch ending). I however, tire easily with some of the same plot tricks they use to bend the character archs. Marginal watch. However, if you want to see the same type of erractic plot formula but at a more condensed viewing, try the movie No Country for Old Men. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/07/25 Full Review Per S After watching and exceedingly enjoying season 1 and 2, the following two seasons became comparatively disappointing. However, with season 5 the series not only is back to basic, but the formula is developed into an even higher level, where particularly some of the characters display a deeper psychological specter, and one as a viewer is challenged to comprehend a more complicated set of human emotions and instincts, where the basics of the plot gets gradually revealed, and the fundament of intentions is nearly perfectly balanced all the way. When this is combined with brilliant acting performances, it becomes a form of true art. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/25 Full Review Aidan H Take some Juno wrapped in Hammy Leigh then scoop over generous spoonfuls of Spruell, Moorjani and Foley. Dust with a sparkly Morris/Rysdahl/Keery/King mixture and bake thoroughly in a bloody twisted pastiche. Finally, smoke over some loony mystical fumes before leaving to freeze somewhere in the Iron Range. "Well ok then you betchya..." Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review L M The acting is superb, but the story is all over the place. And at times deeply implausible. Also, some of it felt derivative from other seasons, like the "Ole Munch" character. It just didn't work for me. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review Eric M Juno Temple brings the best of Fargo! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/30/24 Full Review Read all reviews
