What to Know

Critics Consensus

With a playful tone and an expansive sweep that allows Anne Rice's gothic opus to mull like a chalice of blood, Interview with the Vampire puts a stake through concerns that this story couldn't be successfully resurrected.

Camilla Long The Times (UK) It’s 100 percent Cirque du Soleil realness. Oct 16, 2023 Full Review Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) This new Interview is far more faithful to Rice than was the movie – and nowhere near as much fun. Rated: 3/5 Oct 13, 2023 Full Review Carol Midgley The Times (UK) Vampires are always a bit camp and sensual, penetrating fangs an obvious metaphor, but sex runs through this series like the blood through a swooning maiden’s veins. Rated: 3/5 Oct 12, 2023 Full Review Amelia Cameron Loud and Clear Reviews The series has everything that fans of the book and the 1994 adaptation could have wished for. Rated: 5/5 Feb 24, 2025 Full Review Mike Scott Times-Picayune A handsomely shot and well-cast blend of horror, humor and romance in which bodices and throats are ripped in equal measure. Rated: 3/4 May 14, 2024 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast Exquisitely produced and featuring a trio of great performances by Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, and Bailey Bass, the series deftly explores sex, violence, race, class, and queerness in nuanced and entertaining ways. Claude G As someone who has read every Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles books as well as her Mayfair Witches and more. This show is 'inspired' by the books, but do not expect fidelity to the stories and/or even the characters themselves. If you are a purist. You will be greatly dissapointed. But... If you are willing to enjoy the ride for whatever this is, then it's actually pretty good. Most "main" characters in the show tend to demonstrate some aspect of their character as it is written in Anne Rice's books. Anne Rice's writing is simply luscious and in many ways tend to stimulate and simulate all 5 senses. It's like her writing evoke 3D images with surround sound and smells and feelings in your mind. As such, It's quite challenging to port her pages to live show the content of her stories, because almost everything she describes is a character, be it a chair, a street, a cafe, etc. And giving such details to the surroundings amplifies the meaning and context of her characters and their stories. Sadly that extra layer of context can't always be conveyed in the live show. Still, it's an interesting show and you can think it of it as an alternate universe version of the original books inspiring the show. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/03/25 Full Review Audience Member A black plantation owner in the south in 1791 is TOTALLY believable... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/28/25 Full Review Janaina P I don't know why they said it was an adaptation of Anne Rice's book, the book only has the names of the characters, HUGE TRASH Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/23/25 Full Review Sherron G Being a fan of the books and loving the film, I was looking forward to the tv adaptation. All I can say is WOW!! The opening titles with the musical discord is a reflection of the show & Louis and Lestat's relationship. The cinematography is surberp, the lightening, the mood set & the acting. Just wonderful. The cast of Jacon Anderson as Louis is just perfect but Sam Reid as Lestat. Wow. Just amazing... the best casting ever. I've seen Sam Reid in The Newsreader (do see it) but wow. Just blew my mind at how perfect & how he is Lestat. Can't wait for season 3. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review Calvin O I was encouraged after the first 2 episodes, but I've been watching the same episode ever since. There is no sense of fear, there is no ambiance. The creepeness of the scenes with the writer is just cringe. Its too frontal, and they keep having the same argument. It became boring, fast. The writers don't know how to write development. The introduction was OK, but the rest is so conventionnal. The more it goes on, the more the acting seems bad, they have nothing to latch on except the big shouting matches. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/25 Full Review Andrei D Too long, too unwilling to really explore power and what being a vampire means, needs more Dubai action Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/07/24 Full Review Read all reviews
