Scott M A touchdown for anyone who grew up playing Madden, but probably a fumble for those that didn't. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/25 Full Review Michael W This video game docuseries was very good. The entire crew did a spectacular job on telling this incredible story about the most popular sports video game ever, NFL's Madden. It was very interesting and insightful to learn everything about the game and what EA did to keep it the most popular sports video game today. If you haven't seen this docuseries yet, check it out sometime. It's a definite must see. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review Paul S If you're a fan of the NFL, watch the games, have a favorite team and you play the Madden NFL video games even though they tweak certain things every year but it's basically copy and paste from the previous year's iteration BUT you're a sucker so you buy it anyways, then you will find this documentary entertaining and informational about the history of the only football video game on the market. If you're not a football fan, or a Madden NFL player, then maybe this isn't for you. To each their own. I'm a sucker for the history of things that interest me, and I was excited when this came up on Prime. They didn't advertise it well though which is odd because it's on Amazon Prime where they have Thursday Night Football games, so you would think they would plug the hell out of this to get the fanbase ready for it. This docu series basically covers the entire history of how Madden NFL came to be from Trip Hawkins idea to make a football for the PC in the mid to late 80s to the present day of how they can make this game better each year. They address everything from meeting with Coach (John Madden) and getting his knowledge of the game, getting the NFL to agree to include team names and player names (only after the fact), skin color, Madden Bowl, etc. They interview former and current NFL players about what it means for them to be in a Madden game, the developers who worked non-stop making these games year in and year out, the competition from NFL2K. I honestly enjoyed watching this. It's not going to bring a tear your eye or make you feel like you need to make change in your life to save the environment. It's just an entertaining watch about a classic video game that has been around for 30 plus years and still going strong. I was born in the early 80s so I played all these games growing up and now in my 40s to see the history of this series brings back memories and nostalgic feelings. And now I need to bust out my old systems and Madden games and binge! So if you have several hours during the week, give this a watch. Maybe if you've never played the game, and you just like documentaries in general, I think this will be satisfactory for you. The ONE thing I wish they included but didn't: Andrew Anthony. The VOICE for "EA SPORTS. IT'S IN THE GAME!" Why the hell didn't they interview him?! Missed opportunity! Hence the missing fifth star. Yes. I'm that petty. HA!
